Many exporters are also facing a shortage of workers to handle transportation. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nam – Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association said that in the first 8 months of 2022, Vietnam’s rice exports reached over 4.79 million tons (up 20.7% in quantity and up nearly 9.9% in value over the same period), worth nearly 2.4 billion USD, up nearly 10% compared to 2021. The average export price reached nearly 500 USD/ton, down nearly 50 USD/ton compared to the same period in 2021. Regarding the structure of rice export types in 2021 and the first 8 months of this year, fragrant rice and high-quality rice ranked first. In 2021, Vietnam’s total rice export volume was 6.2 million tons; Of which, fragrant rice accounted for 2.5 million tons (accounting for 41.2%), followed by high-quality white rice for export at about 2.3 million tons (accounting for nearly 37.6%), and glutinous rice accounted for 16.37%.
