Today’s rice prices in the Mekong Delta provinces remained stable after stopping yesterday’s price decline when there was a proposal for the government to buy reserves when the summer-autumn rice price decreased sharply. Currently, rice prices are assessed at a low level, however, the purchase is slow, many traders have abandoned their deposits. In that context, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just announced that it will propose the Government to implement a national rice purchase and reserve program to ensure food security, reduce market pressure and help stabilize the rice market. It is known that the rice planting area in 2021 is about 7,266 thousand hectares, the expected yield is 59.5 quintals/ha, the expected output is about 43.3 million tons of rice, an increase of 600 thousand tons compared to 2020. The total sown area in the Southern region in the summer-autumn crop 2021 is 1.599 million hectares; The estimated yield is 56.51 quintals/ha, the estimated output is 9.036 million tons, an increase of 120 thousand tons compared to the summer-autumn season of 2020. In the Mekong Delta alone, 1.515 million hectares are planted, the estimated yield is 56.66 quintals/ha, an increase of 1.15 quintals/ha; the estimated output is 8.584 million tons, an increase of 124 thousand tons.
