According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the volume of rice exported in March 2022 is estimated at 500,000 tons with a value of 246 million USD, bringing the total volume and value of rice exports in the first 3 months of 2022 to 1.48 million tons and 715 million USD, up 24% in volume and 10.5% in value over the same period in 2021. The average export price of rice in the first 2 months of 2022 reached 482 USD/ton, down 12.1% over the same period in 2021. The Philippines is Vietnam’s largest rice consuming market in the first 2 months of 2022 with a 53.3% market share. The market with the strongest increase in rice export value is the United Arab Emirates, 2.8 times higher. Vietnam’s 5% broken rice was offered at $400-$415 a tonne on March 31, down from $415-$420 a tonne last week. A trader in Ho Chi Minh City said domestic supplies were rising thanks to the winter-spring crop, adding that the crop’s quality had been affected by prolonged rains during harvest.
