According to calculations from statistics of the General Department of Customs, in the first 4 months of 2022, Vietnam imported 182.7 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth 407.47 million USD, down 22.6% in volume and down 12.3% in value compared to the same period in 2021. In the first 4 months of 2022, Vietnam imported meat and meat products from 44 markets around the world. Of which, India is the largest market supplying meat and meat products to Vietnam, accounting for 28.5% of the total imported meat and meat products of the country, with 52.11 thousand tons, worth 159.7 million USD, up 14.3% in volume and 9.2% in value over the same period in 2021. Although the import of meat and meat products tends to decrease compared to the same period in 2021, Vietnam still promotes the import of meat and meat products from a number of markets such as: India, Brazil, Korea, Germany, Spain…; while imports from some markets such as the United States, Russia, Canada, Australia, etc. decreased. In the first 4 months of 2022, Vietnam imported 29.6 thousand tons of fresh chilled or frozen pork, worth 63.6 million USD, down 39.4% in volume and 43.7% in value compared to the same period in 2021. The average import price reached 2.15 USD/kg, down 7% compared to the same period in 2021. Pork imports continued to decrease due to slow domestic pork consumption, while pork production continued to recover.
