Pepper prices today, September 8, in the domestic market fluctuated between 66,500 – 69,500 VND/kg. The market is unlikely to break out when the USD is strong and supply is abundant. Domestic pepper prices are going sideways after many sessions of downward adjustment. In the context of the commodity market falling, on September 5, the World Pepper Community listed Vietnam’s black and white pepper export prices down 100 USD/ton, equivalent to 3,450 USD/ton for 500g/l black pepper and 5,300 USD/ton for white pepper. According to preliminary data, the average export price of Vietnam’s pepper in August 2022 is estimated at 4,003 USD/ton, down 5% compared to July 2022, but up 6.1% compared to August 2021. The latest report from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) also shows that in July 2022 compared to July 2021, exports of most types of pepper from Vietnam decreased, except for ground white pepper. In particular, black pepper exports to many major markets decreased, such as the US, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China. In contrast, black pepper exports to some major markets increased, including India, Ireland, South Korea and Germany. Regarding white pepper, in the first 7 months of 2022, exports of this product reached nearly 16 thousand tons, worth over 96 million USD, up 17.3% in volume and 51% in value over the same period in 2021. In particular, white pepper exports to most major markets increased, including the US, the Netherlands, Thailand, the UAE and India. In contrast, white pepper exports to the markets of Germany, China and Bangladesh decreased. According to businesses’ assessment of the pepper market, it can be seen that pepper exports in the last months of the year are gradually decreasing. According to experts, importing countries are selling off their inventories that they imported when prices were low, instead of buying new ones. On that basis, it can be said that there is no shortage of supply. The harvest in Brazil and Indonesia has just ended, and in a few months, Vietnam will have a new harvest.
