In the Asian region, exports increased in some important markets such as the UAE, India, Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines, and Japan, but decreased sharply in China (down 72.6% to 9,695 tons compared to the import volume of 35,444 tons in the same period), causing the entire region to decrease by 23.2%. Egypt is still Vietnam’s main pepper export market in Africa, reaching 2,110 tons, but compared to the same period, Egypt’s imports decreased by 51.4%. Overall, the entire African region’s exports decreased by 20.7%. The main white pepper import markets: the US: 3,664 tons, Germany: 3,188 tons, the Netherlands: 2,263 tons, Thailand: 1,541 tons, China: 1,393 tons. Regarding exports to Egypt, there was a sharp decrease. The reason is the high USD, leading to many countries lacking USD and being forced to restrict foreign currency for importing non-essential goods, including pepper. Thus, in addition to the reduced demand due to inflation, the high USD also makes exports more difficult. At the beginning of 2022, experts and businesses were optimistic about pepper prices. Many forecasts said that pepper prices could reach 100,000 VND/kg by the end of the year. However, with only more than 3 months left until the end of 2022, the pepper market has continuously decreased, making the pepper industry picture not as bright as expected. The only bright spot for the industry is waiting for the general financial situation of the world to improve.
