According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), Malaysia is the 5th largest pepper producing country in the world, after Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia and Cambodia. The country’s export output has been stable at about 11,000 tons annually throughout the 2012-2021 period. Along with the decrease in production output in 2021, Malaysia’s pepper exports in 2021 decreased by 13% compared to 2020. Malaysia’s pepper acreage decreased by 49% from 2012 to 2021. In 2021, Malaysia’s pepper growing area is estimated at about 7,499 hectares, down 1% compared to the previous year.
