Specifically, in the South Asia region, domestic pepper prices in Sri Lanka increased in the past 2 weeks as the financial crisis in the country continued with an inflation rate of up to 60%. Domestic black pepper in this country increased by 1%, from 4,877 USD/ton to 4,946 USD/ton. Meanwhile, Indian pepper prices showed a downward trend. Meanwhile, Malaysian pepper prices traded domestically and in the international market have been stable since mid-May 2022. Domestic black pepper prices range from 4,091 – 4,107 USD/ton; domestic white pepper 5,847 – 5,871 USD/ton; FOB price of black pepper at Kuching port is 5,900 USD/ton for 500g/l; FOB price of white pepper at Kuching port is 7,600 USD/ton. Last week, Vietnamese pepper prices decreased due to VND decreasing by 1% compared to USD. Specifically, domestic black pepper prices decreased by 1%, from 3,032 to 3,013 USD/ton; domestic white pepper decreased by 1%, from 4,624 to 4,594 USD/ton; FOB price of black pepper at Ho Chi Minh City port decreased by 2%, from 3,730 to 3,650 USD/ton for 500g/l; FOB price of white pepper at Ho Chi Minh City port decreased by 1%, from 5,780 to 5,700 USD/ton. The global pepper market is still trading sluggishly, despite Vietnam’s export efforts in the first 6 months of 2022.
