Pepper prices today, August 10, 2022, remained stable in the country, trading at 70,500 – 73,500 VND/kg. Last week, the world pepper market had a positive trend. In the world market, Pepper prices today were mostly stable. Last week, in addition to the decrease in white pepper prices in Vietnam, other countries remained stable or increased slightly. In South Asia, domestic pepper prices in Sri Lanka recorded stability last week after 2 consecutive weeks of increase. Meanwhile, Indian pepper prices continued to increase due to the Indian Rupee increasing by 1% against the USD (78.94 INR/USD). In Southeast Asia, Indonesian pepper prices continued to increase last week. Bangka Customs said that white pepper exports this year were lower than last year due to shortage of goods. In Malaysia, domestic and international pepper prices were stable and unchanged. As for Vietnam, while domestic pepper prices were stable, our country’s international white pepper prices were decreasing. Currently, 3 countries including Cambodia, Brazil and Indonesia are supplying pepper to Vietnam, the total import volume from these 3 markets accounts for 88.6%. After yesterday’s decline, domestic pepper prices have leveled off. Our country’s pepper import situation is increasing. From January to July 2022, Vietnam imported 25,750 tons of pepper. Of which, black pepper reached 22,385 tons, white pepper reached 3,392 tons, compared to the same period last year, the import volume increased by 37.8% (equivalent to 7,066 tons). In July 2022 alone, Vietnam imported 4,451 tons, of which black pepper reached 4,313 tons, white pepper reached 138 tons. Compared to June, the import volume increased by 29.1%, the turnover increased by 26.5%. Leading the pepper import in VPA is Olam with 8,312 tons, down 1.7% over the same period; followed by Tran Chau: 2,741 tons, up 436.4%; KSS: 1,343 tons, up 6.3%; Gia vi Son Ha: 1,326 tons, down 23.9%.
