fertilizer prices today, April 11, 2022: Fertilizer prices of all kinds continue to remain high. Vietnam’s imported urea is expected to increase again in April while the amount of urea exported has continued to decrease since February 2022. The supply of imported MOP to Vietnam has gradually decreased since December 2021 in the context of a shortage in the world’s potassium supply. The world’s NPK supply is expected to be supplemented soon as some European producers plan to return to production after reducing operating capacity or completely stopping operations due to high gas costs and Russia’s plan to increase fertilizer export quotas compared to previously issued quotas. Fertilizer prices are at the current high level while agricultural product prices are falling, pushing many farmers in the West into heavy losses. Mr. Tran Van Can – a farmer in Truong Long commune (Phong Dien district, Can Tho city) – said: Last year, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, fertilizer prices increased continuously. In 2022, fertilizer prices not only did not cool down but continued to increase. Recently, they increased by an average of 50,000 – 200,000 VND/bag, the highest being Urea fertilizer. “My family has 15 hectares of land growing Thai jackfruit, from flowering to harvest is 6 months, to get the fruit to meet the standards for sale, we have to invest in fertilizer and pesticides. After 3 fertilization periods, the cost for 1 year is 100 million VND for fertilizer, not to mention labor costs. Currently, Thai jackfruit prices have dropped from 5,000 – 8,000 VND/kg, and there are even no buyers. Roughly, this year I lost 80 million VND in fertilizer costs” – Mr. Can said. Not only gardeners are losing money, the record increase in fertilizer prices is also causing farmers Rice farming is in a difficult situation. “I don’t know where to get the money to pay the agents. For the past few days, the agents have called me but I haven’t dared to pick up the phone. If the price increases like this, how will farmers make a living?” – farmer Nguyen Phuoc Tuong, residing in Long My district, Hau Giang province, lamented. Mr. Tuong said that his family has a total of 12 hectares of rice fields. The winter-spring rice crop is ready to be harvested, but no one has come to buy it yet. With the current rice price and yield, Mr. Tuong’s 12 hectares of rice, if weighed for the rice broker, would be worth nearly 42 million, while the cost of fertilizer from the beginning of the season until now has been 80 million. Meanwhile, in previous years, when prices had not increased, the cost of fertilizer he spent was less than half. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thien – a pesticide dealer in Cai Rang district (Can Tho city) – said: “I have been in the fertilizer business for 20 years, and I have never seen such a sluggish market. If calculated from 2020 to now, fertilizer prices are the highest in history.” According to Mr. Thien, with the current fertilizer prices, not only farmers are suffering heavy losses but also agents are facing many difficulties. Firstly, agents mostly sell fertilizer to farmers, and pay later when the harvest season comes; but when fertilizer prices increase, farmers do not have enough money to pay, agents do not earn enough to pay the company, and there is a risk that his agents will not be able to hold on due to lack of capital. Secondly, the situation of continuous increase in fertilizer prices brings insecurity to farmers, who are no longer interested in production, so agents are also sluggish. #fertilizer_price #farmers #western region #fertilizer_price #fertilizer #fertilizer #fertilizer #potassium_price #agriculture #fertilizer #agricultural materials
