Coffee prices today, July 31, 2022, fluctuated between 43,900 – 44,400 VND/kg. In the past 6 days, the coffee market has been continuously increasing. Provinces and cities recorded an increase of 1,700 VND/kg compared to the beginning of the week. Total global instant coffee exports in May increased by 3% to nearly 1 million bags. In the first 8 months of the 2021-2022 crop year, 8.2 million bags of instant coffee were exported, corresponding to an increase of 5.7% over the same period last year. As a result, the share of instant coffee in total global coffee exports increased to 10.1% (on a 12-month average basis) in May compared to 10% in the same period in 2021. Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of instant coffee, with 2.6 million bags in the first eight months of the 2021-2022 crop year, followed by India and Indonesia with 1.4 million and 1.2 million bags, respectively. Roasted coffee exports also recorded a 9.9% increase in May to 75,329 bags. Cumulatively, from October 2021 to May, roasted coffee exports totaled 0.6 million bags. In June, global coffee prices increased by 4.5% compared to the previous month to an average of 202.5 US cents/pound, the highest since February. During the month, the highest price was recorded at 208.7 US cents/pound on June 1, but then gradually decreased to only 193.3 US cents/pound on June 28. At the end of June, world coffee prices decreased compared to the end of May. Pressure from tight monetary policies negatively affected global market sentiment in general. In addition, abundant supply caused coffee prices to continue to decrease. In Brazil, the real fell to a 4.5-month low against the USD, encouraging Brazilian coffee growers to boost sales of the new crop. In Vietnam, robusta coffee exports in June increased compared to the previous month and grew by double digits compared to the same period in 2021.
