The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts that global rice production in the 2021/2022 crop year will be higher than before, due to better production in India and Brazil. Global rice imports and exports are forecast to increase due to stronger demand from China and more exports from Myanmar and Brazil. In the first 5 months of 2022, the country exported nearly 2.77 million tons of rice, equivalent to over 1.35 billion USD, with an average price of 489 USD/ton, up 6.6% in volume, but down 4% in turnover and down 9.9% in price compared to the same period in 2021.
