fertilizer prices today, April 10, 2022: Fertilizer prices cool down but still 40% higher than before the war in Ukraine. Urea prices in China have cooled down, down 20 yuan/ton, equivalent to nearly 1%, compared to April 7 to 2,930 yuan/ton ($460/ton) but are still about 13% higher than at the beginning of the year, according to Sunsirs. According to Bloomberg, the fertilizer price index in North America on the Green Markets channel in the week ending April 1 was $1,269.8/ton, down $0.6/ton from the previous week. Despite the decrease, the price of this commodity increased by more than 40% compared to before the war in Ukraine. The war in Ukraine is likened to “adding fuel to the fire” for the global fertilizer and food markets. Russia and Belarus account for about 40% of global potash exports, but both of these supplies are being affected by the war in Ukraine. Russia accounts for about 11% of the world’s urea exports and 48% of ammonium nitrate. Russia and Ukraine export about 28% of the world’s nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers. Supply chain disruptions due to sanctions and war have contributed to high fertilizer prices. Grain prices have also skyrocketed. “Fertilizer is a huge problem right now. Supply is very tight,” said Tony Will, CF Industries. Prices for some fertilizers have more than doubled. For example, potash prices in Vancouver were $210 a ton at the beginning of 2021 and are now $565 a ton. Urea shipped to the Middle East was $268 a ton at the beginning of 2021 but was $887 a ton on April 6.
