rice price today December 22, 2022: Low supply, high rice price today‘s rice price in the Mekong Delta remains stable compared to yesterday. In the rice export market, the export price of 5% broken rice continues to increase. Specifically, according to the Vietnam Food Association, the export price of 5% broken rice is at 458 USD/ton, up 5 USD/ton. Meanwhile, 25% broken rice remains at 438 USD/ton. Vietnam’s 5% broken rice is offered at 448-453 USD/ton, slightly up from 445-450 USD last week. Demand from both existing and new markets remains good while supply is running out. Currently, Chinese and Philippine customers are still interested in Vietnamese rice even though Pakistan offers cheaper prices. Global rice prices have risen by as much as $25 a tonne for Thai-origin rice and $6-10 a tonne for shipments from Vietnam and Pakistan in the past three weeks. This comes even as the market is seeing some volatility following rising demand and lower production forecasts. Indonesia is looking to buy 0.5 million tonnes of rice, while Bangladesh is looking to import a similar volume on a government-to-government basis.
