Rice price update on April 4, 2023: Rice prices remain stable Today’s rice prices in the Mekong Delta continue to trend sideways. The rice market is more active. According to traders, today there is a lot of raw rice, the demand for buying in warehouses is slower. OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 rice has decreased. In particular, Japonica rice and paddy are traded actively, in high demand, and prices have increased. In the world market, the export price of Vietnamese rice today is sideways after a sharp increase. Accordingly, 5% broken rice is at 468 USD/ton; 25% broken rice remains at 448 USD/ton. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), although the rice export market was “bustling” in March, Vietnam’s rice export prices at the end of March only increased by 20-25 USD/ton compared to the end of February. Currently, Vietnamese rice is at 468 USD/ton (5% broken) and 448 USD/ton (25% broken). Although the price of Vietnamese rice is higher than that of Indian rice, it is still 8-22 USD/ton lower than that of Thai rice. According to VFA, the demand for rice imports in African countries is currently increasing. It is forecasted that the Chinese market will also start to increase imports for storage. Meanwhile, the supply of rice from India and Pakistan continues to be limited; the price of Thai rice increases due to the baht’s re-appreciation.
